Mother's Day | Eva Galambos

Mother's Day | Eva Galambos

In celebration of Mother’s Day we spoke to Parlour X Director, Eva Galambos. When Eva isn’t leading the team as Director here at Parlour X, she is at home with her beautiful daughters Alexa, 14, Paloma, 10 and partner, Michael.  We went to Eva and her partner Michael’s newly renovated eclectic home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs to talk to her about how her mother Rhonda shaped the person she is today, the lessons she instills in her own daughters and how she balances building a thriving luxury fashion retailer brand and home life.

What does motherhood mean to you?

Motherhood is about giving in every sense of the word. It is about relegation of one’s self-importance and complete devotion to another being. It represents a bond that is deeper than anything I have ever known, and it represents a love that is unconditional and unparalleled.

How has your own mother shaped you into the woman you are today and how has she inspired you in life, business and family?

My mother is the most devoted human being, and continually demonstrated the importance of family, above all other things. My mother escaped Communist China with little possessions, so she instilled in me a strong work ethic. My finest characteristics come from my mother, particularly a love of all animals.

What are your fondest memories with your mother?

She was always dressed impeccably, and I know I have inherited my sense of style from her. As a little girl, I always loved Saturday nights, guessing what my Mum would be wearing on her night out. My parents were revellers, so they were always hosting or attending parties.

How do you balance motherhood and  business?

Balancing the two is a constant challenge. I must prioritise and make choices which means I often make sacrifices. I also make sure that I set aside time for activities with my girls. This means shooting some netball, doing our nails, and watching a movie. We like to travel together, and I am fortunate to often take my daughters to Paris on my buying trips, which blends my two worlds.

What are some pieces of wisdom your mother has passed down to you that you now pass onto your own daughters?

Discover where your talents lie and strive to be the very best you can be. It is our duty to ourselves to give everything we have. My mother instilled in me a compassion for other humans, and particularly animals. Animals are often helpless, and compassion for any animal teaches you to be compassionate for all who are less fortunate.

How are you spending Mother’s Day this year?

With my kids and my Mum in our new home. We will probably have a nice long brunch and just relax for the afternoon. The perfect day would include no commitments and complete relaxation.

What is the best thing about being a mother?

I love learning new things every day from my children. It’s intriguing and exciting and I’m learning new skills and knowledge, mostly in the digital space of course. As a mother, I can also create a legacy. I have the opportunity to help shape their lives, and this brings a huge sense of purpose and fulfilment. Of course, they often ignore me, but I hope some of my wisdom seeps through.

What is on your Mother’s Day wish list?

A beautiful card from each daughter as sentimental gifts are best. I am always excited to receive more crystals, a new coffee table book or a platter/ dish from Dinosaur Designs.
