What is your current job title?
I have a couple of job titles… I’m a fashion stylist and creative consultant in addition to my role as editor of my INEZ Daily website.
What does your current role involve?
My styling work involves liaising with art directors, advertising clients and creative agencies on fashion campaigns and branding, whilst at INEZ Daily I oversee the conception and execution of all editorial content for the website, consisting of fashion news pieces, shopping pages, personality profiles, photo shoots and interviews.
What inspired you to become a stylist?
A funny realisation that not everyone was as obsessed about fashion, photography and magazines as I was. I just thought that was normal!
How did you get your big break in the industry?
It was a bit of an organic process… I was at university, studying for a commerce degree, but kept coming across opportunities to work with photographers, stylists, art directors and producers on various projects. Through this I got offered the role of fashion assistant at a high-end fashion magazine and the rest is (my) history.
Tell us about your time as fashion director of Sunday Magazine?
Sunday Magazine had really broad reach – over 3 million readers every week. This presented such a great opportunity to explore all areas of fashion, meeting and working with so many wonderfully talented people. It was hard work producing that amount of content every week, but such a fun, exciting process.
With previous roles at major titles including Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Mode magazine, what has been the most important thing you have learnt?
That the creative process is an ever-evolving journey and you never stop learning.
How has the industry changed since you first started?
I started working in magazines almost 20 years ago, so it’s changed A LOT. The biggest change though has been in the last few years, with the rapid shift from traditional print media into the digital age, in addition to the introduction of social media.
You have worked as a stylist to many celebrities over the years. Why do they like working with you?
I do my homework – I do a lot of research before working with them to find out what their personal style is, what inspires them and how they want to project themselves. I then work out a plan as to how I can take all of this and then put together the best possible image for them.
What advice would you give someone seeking a career as a stylist?
Seek out and assist stylists whose style and experience you admire. This is the best way to meet and learn from an amazing pool of talented people whilst also discovering and refining your own style.
What makes a good stylist?
Curiosity, a strong vision, your own identity and a love for the whole creative process.
What role does social media play in your career?
I see social media as an integral extension of my professional portfolio.
What is the main purpose and focus of INEZ Daily and what differentiates it?
INEZ Daily is a daily dose of trends, insiders tips, fashion profiles and style solutions for busy women who love fashion but don’t have a lot of time on their hands. It’s based on what I’ve learnt over my 20 year career working as a fashion stylist and gives a little glimpse inside my world, both inspiring and sharing all I know with my readers.
What does style mean to you?
It’s an expression of what inspires you, what you identify with and what makes you happy.
How would you describe your look?
My style always borders a little on the ironic – I love to wear classic shape, in lovely fabrics but they’ll be put together in less expected ways with fun, bright colours and bold prints.
If you could travel back to the start of your career, what would you do differently?
There’d no doubt be the odd ’tweak’ here and there along the way, but I’ve always felt really strongly that if you remain true to yourself and what’s important to you, that you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be (even if it wasn’t part of your initial plan!)
Where do you see yourself in 10 years and what will you be doing?
Oh, goodness… 10 years is such a long time. So much has happened in my last 10 years so it’s hard so imagine… but I hope to be still working on lots of fun, creative projects with terribly talented types, all whilst travelling the world regularly with my wonderful husband and two (teenage!!) boys – oh, and a lovely little ‘India Hicks’ inspired beach house would be fab too.
