A new chapter written solely by Piccioli opened, and it read just beautifully. Piccioli is an avid researcher, a fan of the Renaissance, an expert in all forms of couture techniques, and even more importantly, is curious and open to the world beyond the Valentino headquarters in Rome. The first step he took was to liberate the ready-to-wear show from the darkness and anonymity of a tent in the Tuileries, and let the light stream in on the girls who walked around the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild—already a change for the better. They were wearing a collection he’d based on looking at a lot of medieval art, but particularly at Hieronymus Bosch’s triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights—not that the clothes read as historicist at all.   It was indeed: a magical series of handkerchief-hemmed, diaphanous dresses in pinks to reds came out, delicately printed or embroidered with patterns of birds and fantasy vegetation. The girls, their hair done in simple braids, had fresh faces and rosebud pink lips. On their feet were velvet sandals or wonderful dusty-pink suede slippers with a low block heel and ankle straps.   Valentino’s Rockstud pumps are a modern classic, made all the more timeless in a distinguished nude-poudre pebbled and patent leather hues. The sleek pointed toe and 10cm stiletto heel elongate the leg, while the multiple arch and ankle straps are covered in signature gunmetal-tone studs. For a quick lesson in dressing for a night out according to Gigi Hadid – wear them as a chic finishing touch to a tonal slip dress.   Each season there is a standout sneaker style that defines street style. From classic to standouts, one pair always takes over the fashion world. This SS17, Valentino updates the white leather trainers with a standout bianco quarter panel that runs across the foot. They have an op-point low-top shape, and are studded with the label’s iconic Rockstud at the heel and texture-rubber midsole. Wear them to lend a contemporary feminine accent to this season’s cropped wide-leg jeans.   When it comes to one of the most worn pairs of footwear this SS17, Valentino’s nero/poudre lace up, ankle boots are it. The best things about Paris Fashion week are these pair of suede-crafted boots, every fashion IT girl has been spotted out and about in a pair – from Olivia Palermo, Bella Hadid, Selena Gomez to Jessica Alba, Rihanna and Beyonce. Try yours with an oversized white shirt and high-waisted culottes in the city.   Concluding the SS17 collection, striking footwear, which has underpinned each look in Valentino’s runway, adding to the eclectic vibe of the collection. The nero and rubino suede lace up high heel are detailed with ribbon at the ankle and a distinctive round toe. Wear them at night with a mini-length dress or ultra-cropped culottes.
