Ever since Stella McCartney established her own line in 2001, she has constantly been revitalising the world of high fashion with her creativity and improvisation in design. This season Stella McCartney brings to the world her sense of humour, with colours, patterns and prints, bringing to the forefront what summer is all about – fun. “Isn’t it nice to get some colour back into your life, and print, to just feel alive?” said the designer herself when presenting the Resort 2015 collection, “I think fashion can be quite restraining for people”. These season Stella McCartney brings to high fashion clothes that empower women and put them back in charge of what they want to wear. This may be why strong women such as Amal Alamuddin and Gwyneth Paltrow are Stella McCartney clients and friends. “I don’t want the clothes to tell me what to do. When I sit down, I don’t want to feel like I’m wearing cardboard that’s kicking out away from me so that I have to sit a certain way,” she said. The collection features variations of trousers that are sporty and allow women to move freely such as the wide leg trousers, tracksuit pants with ankle cuffs, and trousers with pleats. The tailoring is less straight and masculine, and more feminine and flowing for a sporty yet sweet look. The trousers can be paired with the black bomber shirt for stylish tomboy look. The Midnight and Ultramarine designs bring back summer spirit and personality that has been unfamiliar in high fashion for some time. Unexpected colours and cutouts are displayed on the freeflowing skirts and tops, which can be worn as separates paired with black or white accompaniments for an outgoing, but still sophisticated look. To make a stand this season, however, the Midnight and Ultramarine also come in drop waist dresses, as well as sleeveless and striped Midnight dresses, and are uniquely stunning pieces. The dresses in this collection are predominantly lengthier and free flowing such as the knee length or full length Pewter dresses, consistent with Stella McCartney’s intention of providing freer fashion to women this summer. Stella does revert back to tighter dresses for summer evening glam, however. The Kate Winslet dress is a stunning tribute to the actress who wore it to her own film premiere in Paris, with a flattering, curvaceous and feminine fit. The V-neck Midnight dress is also a tight stretch fit in the familiar Midnight theme. For even more Midnight glamour, there is the ¾ sleeve sweatshirt with jewel embellishment, providing the look of luxury glamour with a summer garden party feel.
