Anthony Vaccarello chose to hold his debut show for Saint Laurent in the impressive surroundings of a palatial building site—a former monastery, later a military headquarters, which has been derelict in the heart of Paris and is now being restored as the Saint Laurent headquarters. The background worked for Vaccarello as a trope for his entry into the house. “It’s a work in progress,” he said at a preview—a modest, realistic statement from a guy not given to bombastic assertions.   As a fun spin on ’80s logomania, there was a pair of heels spelling out “YSL” and earrings to match. Surely there will be much more of that sort of thing in the vast showrooms—products that have always supported the runway show. It’s too soon to call a verdict on Vaccarello in his new role; the job in this massive brand is as much directing teams and generating myriad ideas for merchandise as it is designing. Time will tell what kind of leader he’s to be, and the proof will be in what really fills the shops.   With Anthony Vaccarello at the helm, Saint Laurent stays true to its ultra-glamorous roots. Saint Laurent’s patent leather Edie sandals are topped with structures ruffles over the sleek straps, and elevated on a sharp, angular stiletto. Wear them to complete a high-shine party look, or team them with ripped jeans for a rebellious result. These heels are a currently favourite of Bella Hadid, Miranda Kerr and Cate Blanchett.   For the perfect SS17 investment, Saint Laurent’s glamorous 1980s aesthetic shown through with the black Opium pumps. They have a minimalist, point-toe silhouette that’s elevated on an ornate logo heel – a feature first spotted on the label’s runway. Show yours off with mini skirts and dresses.   Bringing a cool, urban feel to off-duty looks, Saint Laurent’s white Court Classic trainers are a must this season. They have a minimalist shape that’s framed with tonal stitching, and are raised on a textured off-white sole. Try them with a black bomber jacket and skinny jeans for an effortlessly chic result- a celebrity wardrobe must-have which has been spotted on Jessica Alba and Rosie Huntington Whiteley to name a few.
