Saint Laurent’s Resort 2016 collection demonstrates creative director Hedi Slimane’s masterful ability to create gorgeous ways for women to cope with the scorching heat of summer. Channelling a perma-youth culture, the Saint Laurent pieces this season have a vintage, seventies impression about them and convey the perfect combination between trend, high-fashion sophistication and high-street effortlessness. The Saint Laurent Folk Peasant blouse in ecru is a perfect example of this season’s seventies-meets-bohemian themes. Featuring detailed embroidery at the neckline, this timeless piece also has delicate tassle ties and gathered cuff sleeves conveying a sense of prettiness and emphasising femininity. The statement Saint Laurent man-style shirts, come in two new varieties this season. The Small Crepe de Chine Polka Dot Fitted Shirt in black/ivory features a centre front button up closure, buttoned cuffs, pointed collar and a straight hem and is a must-have wardrobe staple for the sophisticated modern woman. Alternatively, for a lighter, work-to-play staple there is the Saint Laurent Large Polka Dot Fitted Shirt in black/shell. Both of the effortless and functional polka dotted shirts can be paired with the stunning Saint Laurent Scarf with fringing detail in black for a composed and sophisticated summer look. A Saint Laurent collection would be incomplete without a glamorous take on a simple basic. Pre-SS16 introduces a man-style, oversized, long-sleeved collared crepe de chine shirt in beige/nude featuring a subtle animal print in 100 per cent silk. The standout top can be worn underneath one of Saint Laurent’s signature blazers, which also come in sophisticated new varieties this season. The Saint Laurent Contrast Simple Satin Lapel Blazer in black is a stylish, classically cut design and is made from 100 per cent virgin wool. In typical Resort season fashion, the functional blazer is intended to be dressed up or down to cater to any outfit or occasion. Its counterpart is the Saint Laurent Contrast Satin Lapel Blazer in black, as seen in Vogue US, Harper’s Bazaar UK and The Collective magazine. Featuring standout contrast satin lapels and a one-button centre front closure, the empowering piece is a worthwhile investment for every high-fashion wardrobe this season. Lastly, for a glamorous, unique and seasonally appropriate alternative to the statement blazers, there is the Saint Laurent Double Breasted Cape in black. Featuring a collar, mid-length cut and centre front gold button closure, this standout smoking crepe cape is a perfect accompaniment to a show-stopping weekend or office look.
