BALENCIAGA With our trip soon coming to a close, we were excited to see what our final days showrooms had in-store for us. The appointment of Demna Gvasalia as Creative Director coincided perfectly with Balenciaga showroom moving to Kering’s new headquarters in a recently renovated site in Saint Germain. Dating back to the 1600’s the building was originally a hospital and convent and is built in the shape of a cross, reflecting its religious origins. The showroom itself is located in the convent and is a sight to behold. The stone colour palette of the showroom allows the clothing, shoes, bags and jewellery to make a real impression as you walk in. With the appointment of Demna as the Creative Director, the French house has experienced a reinvigoration and is back on everybody’s radar especially with the young Georgian at the helm. Walking into the showroom, the season’s look book is displayed on a marble plinth; a small introduction to a huge Resort collection. The Balenciaga RTW collection this season was light and summery with many classic Balenciaga silhouettes with a Demna twist. One of the strongest stories of the season is a stripe story that features on several silhouettes. Our favourite pieces features a masculine vertical stripe print include a long sleeve collared shirt dress with Demna-esque side panels, and a chic and summery camisole top with the same side panels. These masculine stripes also feature on one of the strongest silhouettes of the season - a multi styling shirt. These shirts will have be oversized silhouette that has slits at the side that allow you to tie the sleeves. A definite favourite! Another strong element this season was the use of fantastically bright primary colours; we focused on a magnificent orange and green. These two colours will be available in a multi-styling dress, and a beautifully pleated cap sleeve tops and blouses. As the showroom is outlaid in the shape of a cross, there is a central meeting area in the apex of the showroom. Here you will often see Demna and his team discussing the collection! The new Balenciaga Bazaar shopper is the next IT bag for the French fashion house and this season we have re-ordered this style in both a classic black leather and also a multi-colour Green, Red, blue and White leather. This style already has a waiting list and with Demna being shot wearing his as his everyday bag it will be sure to be a worldwide hit. SACAI We are so excited to welcome Japanese cult label Sacai to Parlour X! Sacai has been on our radar for several seasons and we are looking forward to seeing the innovative fabric and pattern techniques that is Sacai’s signature in-store. Sacai’s Chitose Abe began her career at Comme des Garcons, a disciple of Rei Kawakubo and Junya Watanabe, and started her own label in 1999. Based on the idea of creating the unexpected from the expected and creating feminine, edgy and wearable clothing. For her Resort 17 offering, Abe explored the idea of opposites attracting and specifically an homage to a beloved patchwork quilt. The colourful patchwork pattern is printed on lace, silk, and cotton and this is complimented by tulle and silk detailing. The Sacai showroom is extremely busy as both men’s and women’s collection are shown in the same place and often the space is filled with buyers from all over the world. Our selections include fantastic stripe knits with pleating and lace detailing at the back, a knit cardigan story that features cotton striped poplin backing, and a great cotton t-shirt story that features a tribal lace print at the back. We also ordered these denim wrap pleated skirt in both the navy blue and light blue denim. These skirts are fantastic and the perfect representation of the Sacai design aesthetic. A selection of the stand-out pieces in both men and women’s collection are displayed in the showroom. The patchwork quilt coat was a stand-out! JACQUEMUS Simon Porte Jacquemus has only been on the fashion scene for a short time, he debuted his first collection in his teens six years ago, but he has already made a huge splash. Winning the prestigious LVMH Special Jury Price and with the backing of Comme des Garcons’ Adrian Joffe has ensured that Jaquemus is the avant-garde, minimalist brand on everybody’s lips. The Jacquemus showroom is in a renovated warehouse in the 12th Arrondissement. Against a backdrop of steel beams, exposed brick and uneven floors, the Jacquemus collection is presented on specially designed rails. Usually quite bare, this season we had a pleasant surprise in the showroom with a field of lavender taking up half of the showroom. The lavender is an ode to Simon’s roots in the south of France. A beautiful compliment to a summery collection. One of the stand-out pieces this season was this felted ruffle skirt. In a striking deep red we think this skirt will be perfect for Summer time parties in Australia. Jacquemus is know for its shirting and tailoring and this season we focused on the signature silhouettes of the brand. We loved the Soleil blouse which features a long puffy sleeve with circlular cut-out at the chest. We also loved the classic off shoulder shirting and classic tailored pants with knee high side splits on either side. We love this outfit, especially with such a beautiful backdrop! ELLERY Working with the Ellery team on exclusive capsule collections for Parlour X has been very successful and we love being able to bring the Ellery woman to Parlour X. This season Kym Ellery was inspired by Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 surrealist movie “Holy Mountain”, which explores themes of materialism, corruption, greed and enlightenment with a back-drop of half-dressed actors. The collection is a strong representation of the Ellery signature aesthetic, and we were excited to see new elements including a beautiful cotton-poplin story with contrast stitching. Walking into the Ellery showroom, we were greeted by several key pieces of the Resort 17 collection and a musician, Maxim, playing his guitar. Very chic. The collection featured a variety of different colours, including a very out of character hot pink and deep yellow. Our selections focused more on a crisp light blue cotton poplin that will be perfect for Sydney Spring and Summer seasons. We also loved this Korean Techno Twill fabric in a deep olive khaki colour. This fabric will be available in Ellery’s signature Beedee fluted skirt and a great pair of drop-crotch straight pants. VILSHENKO Olga Vilshenko debuted her first collection in 2011 and ever since the brand has amassed a cult-following all over the globe. Vilshenko fuses her Russian heritage with western silhouettes and in doing creates a modern, feminine collection with a traditional twist. One of the stand-out pieces this season is this three-quarter sleeve coat with traditional Grace Embroidery. This piece is the perfect trans-seasonal coat with an elegant twist. Our selections also included a tiered ruffle dress and blouse in a dreamy floral cloud printed georgette and a love heart embroidered day dress and shirting. Another strong print this season is the Clover Print which we have chosen in this classic key hole blouse and also a short sleeve jacket. We also loved these shirts that feature beautifully detailed embroidered at the bib and cuffs. Resort is over and now onto the Runway in September!
