Landing in Paris at 8am, Rebel and I headed straight into our first appointment at Acne Studios headquarters in the Marais.
This season Jonny Johansson was inspired by iconic rock band The Grateful Dead and their followers better known as “Deadheads”. Johansson approached the Spring collection with what a Deadhead girls would wear in this day and age. The result was a cohesive, ‘cool girl’ collection full of wearable separates with the distinct Acne edge.
The Acne pre-collection showrooms are held in their headquarters in the Marais with both men and women’s collections on display.
Our selections from Acne included wide leg cotton culottes in chic neutral black, white, khaki and beige, a variety of layered skirts, and a statement dark green trench coat that is on our wishlist for next season.
Acne is also known for its classic basics and for Pre-SS17 we will be offering a wide selection of their signature basics, including cotton shirting in a variety of slimline and oversized silhouettes.
The key print of the season is a mix of florals printed on luxurious silk. This particular print will be available in a classic long sleeve blouse and tiered skirt. The print is distinctly feminine however it maintains its grungey Grateful Dead vibe with the oversized silhouettes, layered silhouettes.
The Acne shoe selection this season had much for us to choose from. Acne is known for their chunky heels, pointed flats and brogue-style loafers however we could not go past the boot selection this season.
As well as the classic Jensen high ankle boot in Black and a deep brick red, we also ordered the new style - the Jenny boot - a low ankle boot in both black suede and smooth leather. This style offers all the positives of the Jensen but with a lower cut at the ankle, perfect for wearing with jeans and pants.
We always look forward to the floral installations in the Acne showroom, this season we were not disappointed. Each piece is a work of art!
After the Acne appointment we headed to the second arrondissement for our Celine appointment.
As always we are blown away by the beauty of the Celine showroom. The shoe salon features furniture designed by Phoebe Philo herself, and include stools made in lucite, wood and glass and tables and benches in wood and a multi-coloured foam.
One of our favourite rooms in the Celine showroom is the dining room. The small room features the original 17th century wall decorating and etchings and the ceiling itself has a magnificent fresco that rivals the food presented by the Celine waiters!
The RTW collection is displayed in a bright and airy set of rooms that overlook the internal courtyard. This season the Celine Resort collection reflected the light and fresh showroom with florals, pastel colours and loose silhouettes playing major roles within the collection.
Our favourite pieces from the RTW collection included a classic trench coat in Bronze and Black, a knit skirt and top skirt in a colourful melange, and a jacquard floral printed skirt in black and lime.
A perennial favourite, the Celine Trio will be available next season in both the large and original size in a bevy of colours including the highly sought after Black, Red, Beige, Navy and Dark Smoke Grey.
One of the new bag styles from Celine that has proven extremely popular is the Sangle Tote. This bag is perfect for everyday use and we love the fabric shoulder strap! This season we have ordered this style in classic grained leather in Black, Dune and a light khaki, the perfect new neutral.
Like the Acne Studios showroom, the floral installations in the Celine showroom are show-stopping. We loved this bright posey of florals in the bag showroom.
Another favourite we re-ordered this season is the Mini Belt Bag. We ordered this style in the classic grained leather in Black, Grey and Light Taupe as well as in a newly offered smooth tan leather.
We are also excited to order the Micro Belt bag which is slightly smaller than the Mini size with a longer cross body strap. The perfect travelling bag!
We are eagerly awaiting the first delivery of the Celine Tri-Fold bag for the AW16 season and we have re-ordered this new style for Resort 17
Along with Knot and Barbelle bracelets, we have ordered this Triple Ball earrings from Celine in both Rose and Yellow Gold. We also loved the selection of drop earrings with pearl and blue stone detailing in three different types of hardware.
MOTHER OF PEARL
With our first season of Mother of Pearl arriving in-store to much excitement, we could’t wait to see what the UK brand had to offer for Resort 17.
This season Amy Powney took inspiration from the Mark Northwick’s classic 90’s photography of uber-casual Stella Tennant which was then juxtaposed with girls’ boarding school uniforms.
With this these two sources of inspiration in mind, the collection that was presented for Resort 17 perfectly reflected the classic Mother of Pearl ethos of “sporty femme”.
The ubiquitous english florals were still present, in particular a chic long sleeve mini dress that was a definite favourite, however the presence of relaxed loose fit trousers with sporty side stripes represented the sporty element of the collection.
Our selections include rose printed jogging pants with matching top, oversized boxy tops, and fantastic printed separates that are signature to Mother of Pearl.
We loved this rose print!
For his Resort 17 collection, MSGM’s Massimo Giorgetti drew inspiration from sport, which he see as as not just a discipline but also an attitude.
Giorgetti prefaced his collection stating that “it’s a clash between a romantic vibe and an almost obsessive focus on sports”. The sporty aesthetic is evident in the oversized stripe tops and dresses with exaggerated shoulders, like those of rugby players, and even the lacing details that feature throughout the collection which are meant to resemble boxing gloves’ laces.
While sporty, the collection is still feminine and romantic with a mix of florals splashed on everything from dresses, to shirting, to t-shirts and skirts.
Our selections from MSGM include a re-visit of the incredibly popular denim story from SS16. A fantastic light blue chambray will be available in a tie skirt, wide leg pants and dress.
We have also ordered great floral separates including fantastic shirting and dresses with contrast tie detailing across the chest.
STAY TUNED NEXT WEEK FOR SHOWROOM BLOG PART 2!
