Print masters Christopher de Vos and Peter Pilotto have established an enviable It girl following with their kaleidoscopic digital prints from celebrities Selena Gomez, Kate Bosworth and Emma Watson,Victoria’s Secret Supermodels Candice Swanepoel and Miranda Kerr, Russian Street Style icon Miraslava Duma, to US First Lady Michelle Obama. For their Resort 2014 collection, De Vos and Pilotto were inspired by a recent exotic escape to Brazil, juxtaposing nature with architectural lines. This season the designers also set themselves a challenge to develop their commercial side without straying away from the label’s eye-catching signatures. “We’ve found that customers will buy a printed shirt or skirt from us but then look somewhere else to complete the look,” said Pilotto. To resolve this, the design duo incorporated a handful of much more wearable options including muted colours blocked into geometric patterns on jersey dresses, knitted dresses and crisp white cotton poplin shirts adorned with floral embroideries. The Resort 2014 collection is already a major celebrity favourite, with Sandra Bullock, Naomie Harris and Lupita Nyong'o all recently spotted gracing the red carpet in striking Peter Pilotto designs. The Resort 2014 collection sees the arrival of beautifully printed separates, which blend the overgrown aesthetic of Brazil and the structure of Japan. The Dree canopy-print silk blouse is the perfect transeasonal piece, as it’s muted colour palette and loosely cut shape makes it easy to pair with a block coloured or patterned pencil skirt or slim-leg tailoring. The Astrid top is an indisputable must-have from the Resort collection. This silk top is emblazoned with an optical geometric monochrome motif designed to draw the eye in, counteracting the loose fitting silhouette. To maximise the visual effect of the mirrored optical print, pair the Astrid top with the MK textured pleat skirt, crafted from a cotton blend. The Astrid top is also available in canopy green. Other great separates from the Peter Pilotto Resort 2014 collection include the W Shorts, which features graphic block stripes in monochromatic hues, ideal for pairing with the Astrid top or Dree silk blouse. The H skirt is another classic silhouette from Peter Pilotto. The high-waisted pencil skirt is emblazoned with the signature Resort 2014 monochrome mirror print. Pair the H skirt with the Peter Pilotto Astrid top for maximum impact. No Peter Pilotto collection would be complete without statement party dresses. The Tullulah dress in Dahlia blue emblazoned in colourful blooms and graphic black lines features cut-out shoulders and a very flattering box-pleat skirt. The Kristen dress is crafted from a cotton blend and fuses tropical Brazilian prints and sculptured Japanese architecture juxtaposing the natural environment with man-made design and innovation. The Elizabeth dress is emblazoned in a vibrant combination of floral and architectural prints. The dress is paneled with black to create the illusion of a narrower waist and gives way to a flattering flared hem. The Mira leaf-print mini dress features a sleek silhouette and is crafted from a luxurious silk-blend. The graphic monochromatic patterned design is punctuated with splashes of jade-green, for a subtle burst of colour. Let these statement dresses do the talking by paring down with neutral pumps and minimal accessories. The Peter Pilotto Resort 2014 collection is undoubtedly a worthwhile investment. The unique prints and predominantly muted hues, means the pieces will easily transcend seasons. Above all, every piece in the collection has a transeasonal appeal designed to be worn all year round and layered during the cooler months.
