What are the best places to stay in Melbourne?
If I was coming here to visit, I love the Crown Metropol
hotel. It’s got it all. It’s not directly in the city but I love that it’s not in the heart of the city.
Your top brunch spots?
. Can’t go wrong. Melbourne institution and beautiful part of town across from Parliament and the Botanic Gardens
. Near the theatre and wonderful to sit outside.
Your favourite restaurants and why?
I’ve put this down in the past and never been able to get a table again. So I will put my second favourite instead. It’s a cute little Cambodian restaurant near home called Bopha Devi
, it only sits around 20 people but the food is yum and the staff are so sweet. I think I’ve tried just about everything on the menu!
Where is your preferred go-to for:
Drinks - I like the bar at the Hyatt Hote
l. It’s chilled and relaxed and not overly hype-ish.
Fine dining experience - France Soir
. Food is incurred, atmosphere always boisterous and reminds me of Paris.
A luxury spa treatment - the Aurora Spa
at the Prince of Wales Hotel
in St Kilda, although I don’t get there as much as I would like or need to!
List your favourite shopping destinations across mens, womens, lifestyle or interiors?
Men’s - I mainly shop online for myself. I don’t have time during the days to do retailing.
Women’s - I love Christine’s
on Flinders Lane. She has the most unique sense and take and it’s always a great place for gifts and to discover magical new designers.
Interiors - I do love The Cool Hunter
. Great gift ideas and fun and exciting art pieces. I also love discovering the galleries along High Street for objects and unique pieces. Sophie Gannon Gallery
is always a buzz for new things too.
What is your favourite suburb or precinct in Melbourne and why?
I love where I am in Yarraville. It’s quiet, I can get on with my work, feels like home, there’s a real charm about it, and it’s so close to everywhere in Melbourne. Good food, pretty parks, I feel anonymous here too.
Must see cultural landmarks or museums?
definitely. It’s always been my favourite place to visit and explore. The collection is mind blowing and the shows they have been putting on in the past few years just get better and better. The ANZAC monument
is a place I really love to visit too. There’s a real sense of peace and respect and a place to sit in quiet thought.
Your perfect 24 hours in Melbourne includes?
If I was taking someone around then I would do an early morning walk around the river, watch the sunrise, take in a good breakfast or brunch maybe on Smith Street, do the markets in Prahran
, the Auction Houses near by, the botanical gardens, do a movie at the Sun Theatre,
dinner at the local pub. But if it was me, it would be more low key and focused on doing one thing the whole day.
Define Melbourne in three words.
Alive, robust, stylish.
Your favourite getaway outside of the city?
Daylesford or Bendigo are always good. Beautiful drives and wonderful places to see art, rest and eat.
