Founded in 2015 by Demna Gvasalia, the much-hyped Parisian label has drawn the focus away from traditional houses with its simple, streamlined cuts and authentic, youthful energy. Gvasalia named the label Vetements, the French word for “clothes,” because he doesn’t want customers to pay attention to the name. Rather, he wants them to focus on the clothes themselves: classic pieces with a conceptual twist, delivering a new life such as wool military coats with exaggerated silhouettes, shrunken hoodies and T-shirts, and oversized asymmetrical suit jackets. A standout staple from the Vetement’s SS17 collection, the quick made oversized printed T-Shirt, cut to a contemporary silhouette. It is a boxy; crew neck fit those features short-sleeves that call to be tucked into mannish trousers. Team it with the series of twisted staples for the new season, including the long-sleeved hoodie jumper crafted to a cocooning shape with dropped shoulders and crew neckline, and branded with staff text on the front. Translating one of summer’s key trends, the spring summer dress is emblazoned with delicate pink, orange, yellow and light-green floral print, and trimmed with ruffles at the neck, waist and cuffs, and on the asymmetric hem. Team the sinuous silhouette with knee-high boots, as per the runway. When it comes to a fashion-insider favourite – Vetement’s classical reworked jeans are expertly pieced together from panels of tonal washed-blue denim and feature raw, uneven hems to enhance the deconstructed feel. Wear this high-rise, slim-leg pair with a trench coat, together with the extra long belt – crafted from smooth padded leather for a clean and concise look, and finish with point-toe boots for an assured off-duty look. Vetements continue to craft cult hits for SS17, with the crew neck oversized double T-Shirt, cut to a boxy silhouette with dropped shoulders and short sleeves. Leave hair tucked into the neckline to showcase the centre-back logo. The SS17 staples are the epitome of understated luxury, the entry level T-Shirt is made from a super-soft fine jersey, and features a seamless construction to enhance the loose, featherweight silhouette. Honour the label’s uniform aesthetic by layering it with sleek tonal separates. Presenting a typically contemporary take on a classic motif, the Vetements ruffles-shoulder polka dot prints crepe dress with black flowers and the white floral dress, both are crafted from a padded elasticated-shirred crepe, and finished with soft poplin ruffles along the neckline, shoulders, waist, cuffs, and asymmetric hemline. Wear it with this season’s knee-high boots. Oversized silhouettes are an integral part of Vetements Pre-SS17 presentation. Made from cotton, this long-sleeves 80’s shirt has an exaggerated fit, which is reinforced by collared oversized button up closure.
