Chitose Abe’s new collection is a tribute to “game changers,” dudes like Jimi Hendrix, Pablo Picasso, Kurt Cobain, and the English tailor Tommy Nutter, among other assorted icons of cool. The idea, the designer said at a preview, was “to take things from their style and to put them all together, as one.” To Sacai-ify them, if you will.   Riffing on the styles of the famous, she worked her way through many of her own hallmarks, from deconstructed marinières to lacy army surplus. One statement tee flipped a Joe Strummer quote, “Passion is a fashion,” so it read Fashion is a passion. Abe is passionate, and she certainly knows her stuff. The Daniel Johnston T-shirts were based on one that Cobain wore to the MTV Video Music Awards circa 1992.   2016 was a year that slouchy, streetwise staples (the hoodie in particular) conquered the luxury fashion world, with serious investment options forming the backbone to any modern look. Continuing into SS17, this modern, easy to wear on any day of the week trend has Sacai honing clever sporting touches, and shifting away from the full look, and so should you. Part of the SS17 collection, is Sacai’s long-sleeved high boat-neck knit top with lace up back. The relaxed silhouette comes in a navy and off white or off white and blue colour way, of which both will work with everything from sleek skirts to slouchy denim.  Then there is the Sponge sweat pullover, lay the foundations with this long-sleeved sweater.  Spun into a boxy silhouette and finished with ribbed cuffs and hemline, the sweat also features a lace up back, which wore with satin trousers and backless loafers creates an effortlessly sophisticated look.   Making a case for casual chic is Sacai’s newest playful motif, showcased in black or white the cotton T-shirt features “Fashion is Passion” slogan. It is shaped for a boxy fit, which is enhanced by short-sleeves and crew neckline. Pair it with the label’s wrap skirt for a playful daytime look.   Say it with stripes – taking a linear approach to decoration, Sacai conjured a feast of clean crisp rules in Spring/Summer 2017. Having long been a favored summer staple, when the sunshine arrives, a trusted blue and white striped style can always be called upon to provide some summer chic as we leave behind winter coats. Sacai’s navy cotton stripe jacket, has paved the way for Tran-seasonal dressing. It is crafted from 100% cotton for unrivalled shortness, and is finished with chemical lace embroidery at the hem – knit it neatly, or leave it to trail along the front. Coordinate with the brand’s Cupro stripe wrap T-shirt for the ultimate in matching ensemble dressing. Mastering the new season’s statement shirting with this black and red Cupro wrap style with pleats can be perfectly worn undone for a nonchalant twist.   Similarly eye-catching were the silk stripe offerings of Sacai, which make an impact without the need for accessories. Providing a safer option this spring/summer with an array of colours, including black and red, Sacai’s silk organza stripe wrap skirt with ruffled panels and stripe silk knit top, featuring short-sleeves and a rounded neckline, finished with slight puffy sleeves can be paired from head-to-toe, earning your fashion stripes- turn to the industries must fashionable, such as, Olivia Palermo, Louise Roe, Whitney Port and more to see how it can be styled.   Maintaining a degree of polish is just one secret to pulling off business chic, and Sacai’s shirting top manages to do just that. The new season’s crew neck styling is filtered through a feminine lens. A case in point, this short-sleeved shirt is cut in a navy/back and stripe/navy, and accented with pleated and pockets on chest. Keep things light with tonal trousers.   Concluding SS17 collection, straight from the label’s runway, Sacai’s soft cotton-Glen checks skirt with brown and beige criss-cross cutouts for a more feminine twist, finished with contrasted piping. Wear it with flats for a cool evening look, as seen on the current IT girls of the fashion industry, including, Kate Moss, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth and Lily Aldridge.
