Cult French fashion house Carven is adored by stylish women all over the world for it’s understated elegance, accessibility and wearability. The Spring/Summer 2014 collection’s runway show presented at Paris Fashion Week, Creative Director Guillaume Henry, showcased bright camouflage, gingham and feminine florals inspired by souvenirs from the nineties and the girls he went to school and college with. Henry also cited Drew Barrymore and Liv Tyler as a prominent source of inspiration for his collection as “there was always something tough about them. They seemed upbeat but approachable,” he explained after the show. This notion of upbeat was certainly displayed in the bright colours and youthful prints which dominated Carven’s Spring Summer collection. The French brand is a favourite of Kate Bosworth, Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, Beyonce, Emma Stone, Solange Knowles, Demi Moore, Blake Lively and Anna Wintour, to name a few. Tweed was a prominent motif in Carven’s Spring Summer RTW collection appearing on everything from skirts to knitwear. Carven’s signature A-line skirts are available in three divine tweed colour ways this season – Azur (light blue, black and navy), Poudre (yellow, green and white) and Kiwi (apple-green/black/white). These tweed skirts can be pared back with a crisp white blouse and sky-high pumps for an effortlessly chic Parisian look. Other tweed pieces include the tweed-stitch short sleeve cropped sweater and long sleeve cardigan in kiwi green, which are great layering pieces. Bright florals blossomed throughout Carven’s Spring Summer collection emblazoned on everything from shorts and skirts to sweaters. Carven’s iconic high-waist and wide-leg shorts are in available in sable (a muted pastel palette), bluet floral patterns and also, dark green camouflage, referencing another central motif of the SS14 collection. The floral-print emblazoned sweaters are a versatile way to work Carven’s seasonal print. Pair it with the floral shorts or the sheer mesh layer floral skirt for a complete floral look. Carven’s jungle-print skirts (Available in Havanna and Nuit) are another standout separate this season. Let the divine print do the talking by teaming the skirts with a low-key separate such as the long-sleeve Carven crepe wrap-blouses in sable or noir. Carven’s Spring Summer 2014 collection would not be complete without immaculately cut jackets. This season sees the arrival of a perfectly cropped wool-crepe jacket in navy. Featuring a wide V-neckline and single-button closure, it can be easily thrown over Carven’s bold printed pieces and is a great jacket to transition you between seasons. Another great piece is the cropped front jacket featuring a curved hem and feminine bow fastening. This is the perfect accompaniment to high-waisted skinny jeans or a full skirt.
