A true force of fashion, London based Blue Farrier has done it all! Having let her design talents flourish working for brands such as Stella McCartney, Sandro Paris and Parlour X favourite Chloé, Blue is now focused on her illustrative and creative art works. Parlour X was lucky enough to experience Blue's artistic flair when she designed our SS22 window installation in collaboration with Colville.

What is your educational & professional background?

I went to St Martins Art college and studied BA and MA in Fashion Design from 1994-1999. I have worked as a Fashion Designer and a Creative consultant in the Fashion Industry ever since! My practise has had a lot of creative variety over the years, but now I have a studio especially for my artistic practise.

What is your preferred medium & do you associate your art with a specific style?

I make my art quite instinctively and try not to use just one medium. For me it's all very experimental. I have had quite a lot of joy using different coloured tapes, charcoal, oils and oil sticks, watercolours. But I also have a love of thick black ink. I like the smoothness of it and the fact you cant make mistakes. You have to be quite brave with it and I like this challenge to see where the ink takes you.

You created one of the fabulous hero prints for the Colville SS22 collection. Were you inspired by anything in particular for this project?

Thank you. My love and joy of painting right ink. It was very instinctive. I painted many, I also wanted to bring an effortless and abstraction to the paintings, but also that was concise at the same time.

As well as this, you also created the artwork which is displayed on the Parlour X windows (pictured). What inspired the colour choices both the windows & also the floors?

Colville’s colour palettes are fantastic. They really resonate with me. I liked the idea of treating these windows as a 3D painting.

Why is collaboration so important to you?

The Colville collaboration felt very right for me. I felt we were very aligned with sense of aesthetics. I also love Molly and Lucinda and have been a big fan of them over the years.

Do you have a particular material you prefer to work with?

It depends on how I feel as I work instinctively. Sometimes thick oil sticks, sometimes pure simple ink. I like not to feel confined to one thing!
