Spring Summer 2015’s Balenciaga collection is a breakaway from the traditional exploration of volume and love of high tech fabrics that made Cristobal Balenciaga so famous. For Alexander Wang, it is the era of diamond patterning and sport leitmotifs, demonstrating the initiation of his own style making into the foundation of the classical French brand. The angular shape took the form of geometric pockets on lean, floor length cloaks and slim skirts that emphasises the athletic urban aesthetic that Alexander Wang intended for this season’s collection. The trapeze trench jacket in the seasonal colours of black and ivory has been a favourite of the world’s most fashionable women including Miroslava Duma. The jacket is cropped, reflecting the new sportsluxe direction being taken by Alexander Wang and the world of high-fashion in SS15. Taking the runway by a storm was the Boyish sleeveless jacket. The uniquely designed piece features strict cuts, and angular, blazer like collaring with buttons. It is, however, sleeveless and is loose fitting, to enhance the ‘boyish’, athletic look that exudes relaxed sophistication and modern elegance at the same time. The boyish jacket in black has been very popular for its uniqueness in design and transitional ability to adapt to any outfit or occasion. The hard-edged runway show still maintained elements of classic Balenciaga femininity in the silhouetted pencil skirt pieces. The mixed gauge pencil skirt in black is the perfect sophisticated and stylish piece for the everyday working woman and accurately reflects the traditional and standout elegance that a Balenciaga piece connotes. There was an element of sweetness amongst the sea of front row photographers, however, when a collective “aww” was heard spontaneously from the audience lips. Sitting in the front row was one year old North West admiring the stunningly raw and sharp pieces of Balenciaga’s Spring Summer 2015 collection, with her prominent and not-to-mention extremely fashionable parents Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in tow.
