The Pre-AW15 season of Azzedine Alaia is a collection that possess the trademark beauty of the fashion icon. It has grace, poetry and beauty. Alaia is a wardrobe favourites of the world’s most distinguished and fashionable woman including Giovanna Battaglia. Alaia has had an amazing history. He was born in 1940 to parents who were essentially farmers. He blames his beauty-loving sister for influencing his love for fashion. While growing up, he borrowed issues of Vogue to help him unleash the creativity in him, which ended up in him enrolling into the local École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis. Upon graduating, he started to work as a dressmaker’s assistant before moving to Paris in 1957 where he found his calling as fashion designer. He worked as a tailleur for Christian Dior, Guy Laroche, and Thierry Mugler. Finally, in 1970, he opened his very own atelier at the rue de Bellechasse apartment. For more than 20 years, Alaia dressed some of the world’s biggest names in the industry including Greta Garbo, Marie-Hélène de Rothschild, and Louise de Vilmorin. In 1980, he made his first ready-to-wear collection and was recognized as Best Designer of the Year and Best Collection of the Year at the Oscars de La Mode in 1984. Alaia was adored by some of the world’s biggest fashion editors like Melka Treanton and Nicole Crassat. Fast forward to 2015 and his creations continue to fascinate a loyal clientele. Alaia shapes never fail to flatter a woman’s curves. Its dresses offer magnificent fit that’s sure to flaunt all types of body shapes. Alaia pieces are intricate and feminine, representing thorough and extravagantly done workmanship. This season he presented his creations at his atelier and his collection while not as large as previous, was still impeccable.
