CELINE

Starting the AW16 buying season with our Celine appointment set the tone for an inspirational and fashion-forward buying season.

It is always a pleasure to walk into the Celine showroom. To enter the showroom you must cross the internal courtyard in Celine's headquarters on Rue Vivienne and make your way up the neo-classical staircase (which always has a signature Celine ficus next to it) and from there you enter the heart of Celine.

The showroom has only recently been renovated and embodies the creative vision of Phoebe Philo, who oversaw the entire renovation. Stretching over six rooms and two floors, the showroom mixes Celine’s modern aesthetic with the history of the building. The ceilings have all been restored to their original state and feature hand-painted wooden beams that are complimented by a thoroughly modern grid lighting structure that hangs over the showroom.

celine parlour x The winter collection itself is as impressive as the showroom. This season Philo creates a collection that seeks to both work with and add to a woman’s existing wardrobe. Silhouettes are simple with a classic Celine twist and layering features heavily throughout the collection. Our favourite pieces from the runway include wide-leg flared pants in a variety of colours, an over-sized cable knit tunic and a v-neck silk dress in a beautiful midnight blue silk.

The colour palette of the collection is identifiably Celine with hues of creams, beiges and black dominating most pieces. However Philo injects flashes of colour with a brilliant green and a beautiful deep midnight blue featuring on separates and dresses.

Shirting also plays a key part in the collection, including this over-sized man-style shirt with contrast collar and cuffs. We have chosen this particular style in both colour options as it will be the perfect basic but with a classic Celine twist.

Heading to the shoe section of the showroom, we are given a glimpse from above into Philo’s workroom where the samples are created. This room is at the very heart of the Celine building and although it is quiet after showtime you can see how busy it would be in preparation for each collection.

The flat Babooche style introduced in the runway show last season was such a hit that it is being offered again this season in black suede in both the flat and a stiletto heel style as well. We have also ordered a fantastic pair of chunky sandals that were part of the runway show and will land in perfect time for the Australian spring.

One of the most popular new styles from Celine is the Trotteur. This season Philo introduces a new “Compact” size which is between the small and medium classic Trotteur. This cross-body style will be available in Classic Black and a new neutral for Celine called “Ballerina Beige”.

As well as the classic grained Mini Belt Bag in colours including Black, Dark Grey and Ballerina Beige we have also ordered two bags in a combination of felt and leather, including this fantastic grey colour.

Another incredibly popular style that has become an integral part of the Celine bag collection is the Sangle tote. This tote is a fantastic carry-all and is available in both smooth and grained leather. For the Winter 16 season we will receive this style in classic Tan, Navy and Taupe.

ACNE STUDIOS ACNE PARLOUR X

Our second appointment on the schedule is Acne Studios. The runway showroom is held in a massive warehouse space in the 18th arrondissement and has a low-key, cool vibe that the Swedish brand has become synonymous with.

The runway show itself was an homage to Johannson’s love for 80’s punk band The Cramps. Taking inspiration from lead singers Lux Interior and Poison Ivy, the collection ignored classical gender-based silhouettes and embraced the excess of the 80’s and punk rock scene. Stand-outs in the collection for us were form fitting jersey knitwear and oversized chunky sweaters.

ACNE STUDIOS PARLOUR X

We loved this flower arrangement that was created to resemble the shape of an atomic bomb! Only at Acne….

ACNE STUDIOS PARLOUR X

Acne Studios rose to fame as a denim brand however with every passing season we can see how far the RTW collection has come, and the knits in particular play a strong part in each collection.

ACNE STUDIOS PARLOUR X

Our favourite piece from the runway collection was this sleeveless jacket in a fantastic metal-lined leather. This style is very oversized and the leather can be manipulated and moulded to look as distressed or smooth as you wish.

ACNE STUDIOS PARLOUR X

In true Acne style, the shoe offering this season are definitely off the beaten track. Scrappy sandals with A and S letter heels, flat babouche style sandals and chunky thigh-high boots all played major roles in the runway show however it was these chic pointed toe suede heels that caught our attention. We loved the backward heel and the rust colour is a stand-out.

VETEMENTS VETEMENTS PARLOUR X

The Vetements showroom is hidden in the outskirts of Paris in the 10th. Obscure and from the outside quite grungy, entering the showroom is like stepping into another world; the Vetements world. Dim lighting and an industrial concrete aesthetic greet you once you walk through the front doors and the collection itself is displayed in a black painted room with the clothes providing the only colour in the room.

VETEMENTS PARLOUR X

The colour palette of the winter collection reflected the brand’s statement aesthetic. Black was dominant, however there were flashes of colour including a fantastic plaid story available in red and blue, and a surprising flash of lavender and forest green on separates and blouses.

Vetements is becoming known for eschewing traditional approaches to fashion and instead taking a more contemporary approach. In particular head designer Demna Gvasalia and his creative team regularly use pop culture references and images in their designs. Last season’s signature was the DHL t-shirt and this season Vetements has introduced a t-shirt (originally from the men’s collection) with rapper Snoop Dogg featured prominently on the front. This particular t-shirt was originally created as a one-off for Kanye West (good friend and collaborator with Vetements) and was so requested that the design team decided to incorporate it into the AW16 collection

VETEMENTS PARLOUR X

Parlour X’s Vetements AW16 selections include an oversized plaid button down shirt with exaggerated shoulder pads, the brand’s iconic and sought-after repurposed denim jeans and layered t-shirt dresses featuring the season’s skull illustration.

VETEMENTS PARLOUR X

We loved this cheeky slogan! Vetements is pushing the boundaries of fashion and the everyone is loving it.

ISABEL MARANT

ISABEL MARANT PARLOUR X

Isabel Marant sought to re-connect with her youth for her AW16 collection. With all of the upheaval and devastation of the Paris attacks, Isabel wanted to re-visit her childhood, a time of innocence and fun. She called on her teenage years spent at punk rock club Le Palace and IT nightclub of the 1980’s Le Bains and the result is a full 80’s punk revival - Isabel Marant style.

The styling of the models in both the show and showroom was pure 80’s nostalgia. Windswept up-do’s, over the top shoulder pads and layering all reiterated the collection’s influence. The colour palette was also very ‘punk rock’ with bright red, black, white and even a touch of watermelon also playing key roles in the collection.

The knitwear was particularly fantastic this season, in particular this grey knitted jumper with cut-outs. Although it was very 80’s in the sense of the prairie shoulders and exaggerated shoulder pads, it is a classic Isabel Marant knit that will be a must-have in every wardrobe.

Leather also featured heavily in the winter collection and our favourite pieces were the mini-skirts. In particular this style with the asymmetrical zip in a metal-lined leather was a stand-out and will be arriving in perfect time for summer and party season.

JENNIFER FISHER JENNIFER FISHER PARLOUR X

From a custom-made dog tag to celebrate the birth of her first child, Jennifer Fisher has created a label that sets new standards of modern jewellery design. Focusing on brass, Fisher’s collections aim to provide clients with a personal connection to each piece. As Fisher herself says “Jewellery is so personal, it should reflect exactly who you are. Everyone is going to wear each piece in a different way. No one is going to layer their rings and bracelets the same way”.

JENNIFER FISHER PARLOUR X

For her AW16 collection, Fisher focuses on taking traditional jewellery shapes and putting her own signature on them. For example, she has created a fantastic hoop series that secures directly to the ear, rather than hanging.

JENNIFER FISHER PARLOUR X

The collection alternates between offering delicate items and also chunkier pieces. The cuffs are fantastic to layer with existing cuffs and bracelets and will be available in both silver and yellow gold.

These double hoop earrings were our favourite piece in the collection!

ELLERY ELLERY PARLOUR X

After such a fantastic runway show, we were excited to see the Ellery collection up close. For her winter collection, Kym Ellery was inspired by turn of the century corsetry and how deconstructing this classic garment could make it modern. Silhouettes were over the top and then cinched at the waist and lacing featured on various different items including pants, jackets and dresses.

ELLERY PARLOUR X

Ellery’s signature fluted sleeve silhouettes were present in the winter collection but in new and more technical fabrications, including this fantastic lurex. This particular style will be available in both silver and gold lurex and and features a draped open back and v-neckline especially for Parlour X.

ELLERY PARLOUR X

Along with the classic Ellery fluted sleeves, we also saw the return of the mermaid skirt silhouette that is one of Ellery’s original and most successful shapes. We loved this particular skirt and for AW16 it will be exclusively created for Parlour X with contrast white stitching.

ELLERY PARLOUR X

We loved this story which looks like velvet but is actually a very fine corduroy! This fabric will be available in both rust and midnight blue in a range of separates including tops and skirts.

A cute shot of us in the showroom with Kym enjoying her Aperol Spritz!

MSGM MSGM PARLOUR X

MSGM is quickly becoming one of the most popular and sought after contemporary collections in fashion right now. Head designer Massimo Giorgetti has made a name for his brand as the go-to for people looking for pieces that are on-trend, fun, daring and chic. The collections are generally all very colourful and feature a variety of different fabrications and the winter collection just shown was no exception.

This season MSGM referenced its earliest collections and the appearance of polka dots, roses and stripes all reflected the inspiration. The silhouettes were more sophisticated than MSGM’s first collection however the essence of MSGM which dates back to that first collection was present in every piece.

MSGM PARLOUR X

Our selections from the winter collection included great printed silk blouses in both short and long sleeve versions, a chic black and white story that features a statement ruffle detail and classic cotton shirting which mixes contrasting prints.

MSGM PARLOUR X

The runway show (which was held in Milan) played in the background of the showroom and added to the fun and colourful vibe of the collection! Giorgetti, who had previously been a very successful DJ before he created his fashion label, sets the music for every show and it is always one of the best soundtracks of fashion season.

MSGM PARLOUR X

The signature print for MSGM this season is the face print. This quirky cartoonish print features on pants, skirts, tops and coats. We love how quirky this print is while still remaining chic and fashionable.
