Aimee Lennox is forging a path of her own. Having worked across both the fashion & beauty industry, currently with La Mer & Jo Malone London, Aimee talks to X-Files about what she has learnt in the early stages of her career, her passions (travel included) & styling tips & tricks.
Where did you career start and what did you study?
I studied Business and Marketing at UTS straight after finishing High School. I wanted to do this Degree because I was generally interested in PR, marketing and communications but thought it best to ground my studies with a Business focus which I really think has allowed me to prosper and exceed in my career. During my Degree I quickly realised that I wanted some practical experience and so applied for countless internships. Throughout my studies I interned at multiple PR companies. I would really recommend that any person looking to get into the industry do the same, as it really helped me hit the ground running. These experiences not only gave me the confidence but also the industry knowledge to apply myself at my first full time job in the creative space – Parlour X. I always had a passion for luxury brands and the stars seemed to align when a digital and social media content role came up and my career began from there.

What was the most valuable thing you learnt while working at Parlour X?
I can’t really pinpoint one key learning from working at Parlour X but rather a handful. I learnt:
- To consistently adapt and reprioritise, ensuring to focus on business-critical areas when necessary.
- Understanding the important of bricks and mortar and how that translates online (vice versa).
- Importance of social media, keeping up to date with the ever-changing environment.
- Be prepared to test, fail and learn.
- Discover and expand in areas of the business to challenge and develop your skills - don’t just stick to the areas your most comfortable.
What sparked your interest in working in fashion and beauty?
My initial interest in fashion and beauty grew from a young age. I watched both my grandmother and mum take pride in what they wore, even if it was to pick up groceries. I was in complete awe of their effortless and chic approach to every outfit, but more so how they looked after their skin. I loved how they curated everything and followed their skin regimes religiously – every product had its purpose and skincare was spoken about as an investment. I think that is where my obsession for fashion and beauty began. After working in fashion, beauty felt like a natural progression and a space that I knew I loved.
What are your passions outside of work?
I’m a very proud mum to a cavoodle called Alfie, he occupies most of my mornings with walks to our local coffee shop. When I’m not pounding the pavement with Alfie, I’m at boxing - I’m not one to ‘switch off’ but when I’m boxing it’s the perfect escape and meditation for my mind. To balance the exercise, I love exploring Sydney’s food and drink scene! My partner and I have ticked off an extensive list but are always on the lookout for new and exciting venues. @Arthurrestaurant is a must!
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Treat others as you would want to be treated. Universal advice yes, but it is so easily applied to all areas of both personal and work life. As in many other industries, but particularly in Fashion and Beauty, your personal brand means a lot. Further to this is teach others as you would wish to be taught – no matter what position you hold, there is always a responsibility to support and develop those around you.
Where is your favourite place you have ever travelled to?
Kitzbuhel, Austria. My partner and I travelled there for a winter escape, skiing in Kitzbuhel was an absolute dream! It’s an incredible medieval town in the heart of the Austrian Tirol with a picturesque landscape. The people, culture and cuisine were what made the trip that much more memorable – it felt like home for the week we were there!
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I hope to keep building my knowledge in digital marketing. The digital landscape is constantly evolving, and I want to develop along with it. I also hope to continue working for Estee Lauder Companies within an affiliate, after a stint living in Paris, I’m itching to experience something new –New York or London are currently on the cards.
Describe your personal style?
Practical, comfortable and classic. I’m partial to a pair of jeans, white shirt, blazer and hint of gold.
