This up-and-coming design talent is responsible for our most recent window display – a gilded palm installation that lit up all of Oxford Street! We sat down for a quick pow-wow with Jordan – read on for all the details. 1. She used to build furniture for Jardan – “I have always been making and creating. Furniture and props have become my main interest due to a combination of studying design, working in the art department in film & TV and a love for materials and tools. Most recently [at Jardan], my time on the timber factory floor taught me invaluable skills and techniques.” 2. She takes inspiration from Emilio Pucci – “I looked to [Pucci’s] summer and resort collections when conceptualising this window installation. Dusty pink 70s paisley swirls, glitter, gold sparkles screaming exotic balmy summer nights, bottomless screwdrivers and overall glamour. Smothering the tropical scultures in gold and a pink floor were a must!” 3. When designing furniture, she does things the hard way – “I always avoid using screws or nails, as good joinery, lots of glue, an honest use of materials, and lots of sanding will usually do the job. With props, I try to purchase mainly recycled building materials. Props usually have an expiry date, therefore recycling from the get-go is really important to me. 4. The Sydney art scene provides the most inspiration – “I’m loving the work of Darkota who goes under the name of MOrus Quinn, and Natalie Synnott. Also, Melbourne based materials research and fabrication collective called Alt. Material. Each year, they hold an exhibition at which various designers create an experiential design piece – there are some wild designs and bizarre material investigations. Very inspiring!” 5. The Opera House is her favourite Australian design landmark – “It’s such a magical building. Also, I have a soft spot for Brutalist architecture, and the most famous of which is Sydney’s Sirius building. Also the MLC and Masonic centres.
